At dinner, Frannie asked if Iâd given any more thought to opening a bridal salon.
âI have, actually,â I said, taking another bite of Felicityâs roasted acorn squash with rosemary and garlic. âIn fact, I spent the entire day today doing research.â
âLike a wedding dress shop?â asked Emmeline.
âYes, one that caters to plus-sized women,â I said. âIt can be really difficult and not fun at all to find a dream gown in larger sizes. I hear it from brides all the time.â
âItâs the same with homecoming and prom dresses,â said Audrey. âI can never find anything to fit me on top, and if I do, itâs too big on the bottom. Itâs like they donât make dresses for people with boobs.â
âAudrey.â Frannie gave her a stern look. âWe have company.â
âIâm just saying, itâs a good idea,â Audrey pushed back. âI bet it would be a really popular place.â
âWhat about your job at Cloverleigh Farms?â asked Emmeline. âWould you keep it?â
âNo, I wouldnât be able to do both,â I said. âAnd thatâs one huge reservation I have.â
âMaybe Winnie could take over for you at Cloverleigh,â suggested Frannie.
âI wouldnât ask her to leave Abelard,â I said quickly.
âWell, hang on.â Winnie picked up her wine glass. âI do love working at Abelard, but I wouldnât necessarily turn down the opportunity to take over events at Cloverleigh Farms.â
âWould you be able to leave on good terms?â our dad asked. Abelard Vineyards was owned by Winnieâs best friend Ellieâs family. Ellie worked there too, as manager of their tasting room, although sheâd just had a baby, so she was taking some time off.
âDefinitely,â said Winnie. âWith Ellie out, her mom has been working a lot moreâshe was the original event planner there, remember, and she only left that job because they were going to spend time in France. But theyâre back full-time now that the baby is here. I could easily talk to her if you decide to leave, Mills.â
âIâll keep you posted,â I said. âRight now, Iâm really just gathering intel. I think the demand is there, and thereâs no other shop like it within four hours in any direction, but itâs not a decision Iâd take lightly. Iâd have to get a loan, find a space, remodel, contact designers . . . itâs a lot.â
âYou know youâd have help,â said my dad. âI know plenty of people at the bank that could help you secure a loan as long as you had a solid business plan.â
âOh, I would.â I set down my fork, suddenly too excited to eat. âIâm going to work on that.â
âIâd be glad to help you out with a loan, Millie,â said Hutton.
I looked over at my handsome brother-in-law. He was so unassuming and quiet, it was easy to forget he was a billionaireâheâd made a fortune thanks to some sort of mathematical algorithm heâd created for a cryptocurrency exchange. âYou would?â
âSure. I think youâre on to something. A good business idea starts with a solution to a problemâyouâve identified a problem, a solution, and a hole in the geographical market.
